As “Change-makers", we promise to change the future of breast cancer!

On October 1st, nearly 85,000 people across the country participated in the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) CIBC Run for the Cure.  The Run is the largest, single-day, volunteer-led event that is dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness and much needed funds.  Thanks to all the Change-makers who participated, an estimated $17 million was raised to invest in ground-breaking cancer research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care.

In Toronto, the LOMA Society of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) was proud to take part in the Run with an estimated 20,000 people at the University of Toronto’s St. George Campus.  On that sunny Sunday morning, a team of 17 enthusiastic individuals sporting t-shirts personalized with the “LOMA Society of the GTA” name on the back, ran or walked the 5km route cheered on by radio personalities, employees of the host organizer and volunteers from the CCS.

Thanks to the amazing efforts of our team of Change-makers and their donors, the LOMA Society of the GTA raised over $3,000; 3 times our target goal of $1,000!  Together we can change the future of breast cancer and be part of a network that supports survivors.   Go team!

Did you know that the four (4) Canadian LOMA Societies (Waterloo, Greater Toronto Area, Quebec and Montreal) now have reciprocal Members' Rate Attendance for LOMA Society Events in Canada?

How does it work?   If a LOMA Society of the GTA member wishes to attend a Waterloo, Quebec or Montreal LOMA Society event respectively, they would be able to attend that Society's event at the same rate as the local Waterloo, Quebec or Montreal member.  By the same token, any member of the other three (3) Societies wishing to attend a LOMA Society of the GTA event may do so at the rate set for LOMA Society of the GTA members.

Questions? Please send your questions to contactus@lomasocietygta.org

    Better Late than Never!

The LOMA Society of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) held its first gala lunch on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Manulife.   Over 30 Society members and guests attended, intermingling, networking, then enjoying a scrumptious buffet, and finally listening to Jill McCutcheon, a lawyer with Borden Ladner Gervais LLP.   Jill spoke on disruptions in the Canadian life insurance industry in an interesting, humorous and enlightening manner.

Almost all attending guests (sans Board members) won a raffle or prize draw, including the grand prize (worth $500) to attend the LOMA Conference in May 2017.   There was unanimous agreement that a good time was had by all.   Therefore, we have lined up a host of fun and exciting events for 2017.

Please join us at our 2017 annual spring lunch on Friday, May 5th, 2017 at St Paul’s Bloor Street, and at our annual fall lunch on Friday, November 3rd, 2017 at Manulife.

Our social (just around the corner) will be held at SPiN on Thursday March 30th, from 6 to 8 PM.  Here you can put your ping-pong skills to work, battle it out with your peers, or just have a fun evening to socialize or network.   There will be plenty of munchies to go around.   Further details and a link for registration is available on our website.   We hope to see there!

At the Rock Stars party during the 2016 LOMA Annual Conference and Conferment in Las Vegas, NV, seven booths were decked for the Societies’ Booth Challenge and attendees had the opportunity to vote for their favorite.   Several board officers and members from our Society unleashed their creativity and assembled an inviting booth, earning it second place in the contest – a proud accomplishment for first-time participants!
